Confirmer is the person who looks at the evidence you have collected and ‘confirms’ that you have met the revalidation requirements.
Confirmation phase in NMC Revalidation
Confirmer is usually your line manager or any other nmc registrant who will be able to provide the name, NMC pin or other identification number (where relevant), email, professional address and post code.
You need to have a face to face session with your confirmer. You need to talk them through how you have met all the requirements.
Nurses/midwives/nursing associate who is undergoing revalidation need to keep a portfolio of evidence . In-turn, the confirmer uses this to demonstrate how you have met the requirements.
Who can be a confirmer other than your line manager?
If your line manager is not available, nmc recommends any other NMC registered nurse, midwife or nursing associate to be your confirmer.
If the situation is such that you don’t have any other NMC registrant available, you can ask for another healthcare professional regulated in UK.
It can be Art therapist, Biomedical scientist, Chiropodist, Chiropractor, Clinical scientist, Dentist, Doctor, Dietician, Hearing aid dispenser, Occupational therapist, Operating department practitioner, Optician, Optometrist, Orthodontist, Orthoptist, Osteopath, Paramedic, Pharmacist, Physiotherapist, Psychologist, Podiatrist, Prosthetist / orthotist, Radiographer, Social worker, Speech and language therapist.
Where a nurse, midwife or nursing associate has an appraisal, confirmation can take place as part of this.
Each year NMC will select a random sample of revalidation from nurses, midwives and nursing associates. NMC will ask them to provide further information about their application. This process is known as verification. As part of this process, nmc will contact confirmer. The role of confirmer is to ensure the confirmation discussion has taken place.
It is important to know that nurses, midwives and nursing associates are not selected for verification are selected randomly. This doesn’t means nmc has any concerns about their practice.
The confirmers are asked by NMC to keep a record of nurses, midwives or nursing associates, who they support with revalidation. Particularly, if the confirmer is acting as a confirmer for multiple nurses, midwives and nursing associates.
Family members or close friends cannot act as your confirmer as this would be considered a conflict of interest.

You are not required to submit this form to the NMC at any point. But you should keep it safe as part of your records. Please respect the fact that confirmation form contains personal data about your confirmer. Obviously, you are responsible for the confidentiality of the document.
It should be noted that, when you complete your revalidation application via NMC Online, NMC will ask to enter your confirmer’s NMC Pin. Regardless of the fact that they are a nurse, midwife or nursing associate. Obviously, you will not be able to proceed with your application if you enter a wrong pin number.
