NMC is very particular about the health and character of the registrant. This is to make sure that they are fit to practice.
You have to declare if you been charged, convicted of any criminal offence or issued with a formal caution. This include conditional discharge as well.
If NMC already knows about your caution or conviction, you don’t need to declare it again during the revalidation process.
Health and Character Declaration
This requirement will help NMC to make sure that the registrant is capable of safe and effective practice.
In accordance with the Code, NMC expect you to declare any police charges, cautions, convictions and conditional discharges. Basically, you need to report those to the NMC immediately, not wait until revalidation.
A caution or conviction includes a caution or conviction you have received in the UK for a criminal offence. This also includes conviction received elsewhere for an offence which, if committed in England and Wales, would constitute a criminal offence.
Please do not notify the NMC of motoring offences unless it led to a disqualification of driving. You also don’t need to report offences that have previously been considered by the NMC.
Besides, if you have been diagnosed of any health condition or disablility which may affect your practice, NMC need to know about this to assess you for making sure it won’t pose a risk for the safety of people in your care.
It is upto the registrant to decide whether your health allows you to be capable of safe and effective practice. If you are satisfied with your decision then you don’t need to provide NMC with any further information except the declaration.
How to submit this requirement?
On NMC online website, in due course of submitting your revalidation, you will be asked to declare about your health and character. There is no template for this requirement.
